The GECS ProjectGreenhouse gas Emission Control Strategies
|

|
The goal of the GECS project is to develop global (world) scenarios in order to analyse the impacts of Post-Kyoto policies under flexibility mechanisms for emission reduction, including options to reduce emissions resulting from land use change and for strengthening carbon sinks. The aim is also to fully analyse the spectrum of issues resulting from the mechanisms established at the Kyoto Conference and furthermore extend the analysis for the post-Kyoto perspectives. In this endeavour, a high priority is put on the identification of emission reduction strategies that may fit in a perspective of sustainable development at world level, i.e. that correspond to criteria of international and intergenerational equity. The GECS project is developed under the Fifth Framework program of the EU DG Research, with the following partners : ICCS-NTUA Athens, JRC-IPTS Seville, CES-KUL Leuven, ZEW Mannheim, Federal Planning Bureau Brussels, CIRAD-ECOPOL Paris, RIVM Bilthoven. It is also undertaken in close connection with complementary research projects, particularly for the French Ministry of Environment (ARES project, under the GICC program with partners CNRS-CIRED Paris and JRC IPTS) or for the EU DG Environment.
