The influence of physical and social constraints of actions on visual perception of space
A classical approach in psychology (e.g., Pylyshyn, 1999) posits that visual perception is an encapsulated process independent of non-visual factors. Yet, some recent studies challenge this idea of the cognitive impenetrability of visual perception (e.g., Balcetis & Lassiter, 2010). Among these studies, some of them suggest that visual perception of space would be influenced by the constraints or costs associated with our actions in order to promote an economic action planning (Proffitt, 2006).
Keywords: Visual Perception of Space, Economy of Action, Affordances, Ecological Approach, Embodiment, Physical and Social Constraints
